چکیده

A Dirichlet-to-Neumann (DtN) condition is derived for the numerical solution of time-harmonic multiple scattering problems, where the scatterer consists of several disjoint components. It is obtained by combining contributions from multiple purely outgoing wave fields. The DtN condition yields an exact nonreflecting boundary condition for the situation, where the computational domain and its exterior artificial boundary consist of several disjoint components. Because each sub-scatterer can be enclosed by a separate artificial boundary, the computational effort is greatly reduced and becomes independent of the relative distances between the different sub-domains. The DtN condition naturally fits into a variational formulation of the boundary value problem for use with the finite element method. Moreover, it immediately yields as a by-product an exact formula for the far-field pattern of the scattered field. Numerical examples show that the DtN condition for multiple scattering is as accurate as the well-known DtN condition for single scattering problems [6,7], while being more efficient due to the reduced size of the computational domain.

A Simple and Systematic Approach for Implementing Boundary Conditions in the Differential Quadrature Free and Forced Vibration Analysis of Beams and Rectangular Plates

This paper presents a simple and systematic way for imposing boundary conditions in the differential quadrature free and forced vibration analysis of beams and rectangular plates. First, the Dirichlet- and Neumann-type boundary conditions of the beam (or plate) are expressed as differential quadrature analog equations at the grid points on or near the boundaries. Then, similar to CBCGE (direct ...

An efficient approximate method for solution of the heat equation using Laguerre-Gaussians radial functions

In the present paper, a numerical method is considered for solving one-dimensional heat equation subject to both Neumann and Dirichlet initial boundary conditions. This method is a combination of collocation method and radial basis functions (RBFs). The operational matrix of derivative for Laguerre-Gaussians (LG) radial basis functions is used to reduce the problem to a set of algebraic equatio...

Periodic structures in waveguides

We consider structures of period 2 spanning a two-dimensional waveguide of width 2N . Scattering problems where Neumann conditions are imposed on the boundary of the structure and either Neumann or Dirichlet conditions are applied on the guide walls are decomposed into N +1 independent problems. The existence of at least N trapped modes is proved for the Neumann guide case and for the Dirichlet...

On a Uniquely Solvable Integral Equation in a Mixed Dirichlet-neumann Problem of Acoustic Scattering

The mixed Dirichlet-Neumann problem for the Helmholtz equation in the exterior of several bodies (obstacles) is studied in 2 and 3 dimensions. The problem is investigated by a special modification of the boundary integral equation method. This modification can be called the "method of interior boundaries", because additional boundaries are introduced inside scattering bodies, where the Neumann ...

Adiabatic Decomposition of the Ζ-determinant and Dirichlet to Neumann Operator

Abstract. This paper is companion to our earlier work [8] (see also announcement [7]). Let M be a closed manifold and Y be an embedded hypersurface, such that there is a decomposition of M = M1 ∪M2 into two manifolds with boundary M1 and M2 , with M1 ∩M2 = Y . In [8] we proved the decomposition formula for detζ∆ the ζ-determinant of a Dirac Laplacian ∆ on M . The contributions coming from M1 an...
